No plans for the weekend

This past weekend was so relaxing. Not really anything planned. I left work at a decent hour on Friday. There was a lot of lounging, movie watching and even a nap.
Saturday I hit the gym in the morning. Then the rest of the day was a little housework, some knitting, watching movies and relaxing. We Skyped with the in-laws and our niece, Madison.
Sunday I hit the grocery. Our friend David came over and we headed to the Thai Buddhist Temple for a delicious lunch. After that there was some more lounging. In the afternoon Curt and I headed to McNally's for a beer and to visit John.
All loungy and quite relaxing. It has been what I really need lately. Work has been pretty intense and tough.
I am taking this Friday off as a mental health day. So I will have a four-day weekend. We really have nothing planned and I am happy for that. I have a few things to do, hit Target, grocery, gym, etc. I think on Friday I may see a movie.

My mom's homemade tamales, Lifetime, wine ...

It's been a rough week at work. I am totally overwhelmed, stressed and on the verge.
Tonight I left work "early": I left before 5:30, which is sadly early.
I was home tonight before 6 p.m.
I had a little alone time.
So ... I had some homemade Mama's green corn tamales, wine and a little Lifetime.
Once Curt got home we watched Mythbusters, The Daily Show, Colbert Report and now some crappy viewing of Gigli. Wow, this movie is bad. But it is entertaining. Is Ben Affleck pretending to be Italian? He is doing a horrible job!!!

Wacky Weather in the Bay Area

Today was hot. Hot for the Bay Area and just hot. It hit 98 in San Francisco. I think in Emeryville/Oakland it hit at least 100--but I have nothing official to back that up.
I know my Arizona and Missouri friends and family are thinking, what's the big deal? What a bunch of babies. I actually love this heat. But when you don't have A/C, well that just sucks.
A co-worker/friend and I had lunch outside. It was so nice. We don't get to do that very often. Especially this year. This summer has been the coldest in more than 50 years.
And apparently by the weekend it is gonna be cold again. Booo.

Red toe polish

I have this idea in my head that women who have their toes painted red are fancy, rich ladies.

A pampered weekend

One of the main reasons my blogging has been limited is because I have been so busy at work that nothing exciting is happening and even if there was I am so exhausted when I get home from work that I don't want to write about it anyway.
Since I have been overworked I made sure to take care of me over the weekend. Yesterday I got a wonderful massage. Thanh knows how to take care of me. I told her I had been really tired and busy lately. She told me she would do her best to make me feel better. And she did.
Afterward I met Curt at McNally's for a drink. And our awesome bartender, John, shared an amazingly delicious tuna sandwich with me. I was hungry and needed lunch and it hit the spot. A nap, of course, was in order after that.
Today I did some domestic chores: laundry, grocery shopping ... Joey had a nail trim appointment. After Joey's appointment I decided to get my own mani/pedi. Then home for a quick lunch and off again for a CAbi party--like a tupperware party for clothes. I bought a few items. I ended up staying a bit after the party ended and played with Oliver, my friend Jennifer's 18-month-old. He was a fun little guy to play with.
Tonight Curt and I headed to Sushiya for dinner. We started thinking about more travel options this year and for the coming year. Oh yea! We came home and watched Mad Men and now we are watching The Informant.
Good night and have a good week.

Last weekend

This past week has been so busy that I hadn't had a chance to blog about my trip to Tucson.
I headed to Tucson last Friday night. My mom met me at baggage claim. After we got my bag we found Fred and in the car was a strawberry eegee waiting for me. How much better can it get?
We got to the house and mom heated up some green corn tamales for me. Oh, so yummy.
Saturday morning Mom made chorizo and menudo for breakfast. My aunt, uncle and cousins (Margie, Mason, Sarah and Daniel) came over for breakfast and coffee. It was a fun visit. We had a great time. After breakfast we headed to Grandma's for a visit. We headed home and lounged while having cheese, bread, wine and Lifetime movies. Mom and Fred went to church and I went to Shelly's for a barbecue. It was great to see Shelly and her girls, who are now 15. I can't believe it. I have known those girls since before they were born. Then off to dinner with Mom, Fred, my brother, John, and his girlfriend. After dinner I went over to John's for a bit to see his house and meet all of his dogs.
Sunday morning was a little lazy with another yummy breakfast made by Mom. Late morning I went over to Grandpa's for a visit and a beer. Then back to the house to get Mom and Fred and off to Grandma's again for a visit with Grandma, Uncle Mike and some beer. Oh, and playing fetch with Grandma's dog, Chuy. Back to Mom's for lounging, guac, salsa and chips and wine and Lifetime. I had dinner that night with Dad at Bisonwitches. I had to make a stop at eegee's for another strawberry slushie drink. John was supposed to have dinner with us, but he had something else to do. He stopped by Mom's afterward for a visit.
Monday I slept in. Had a lazy morning. Mom, Fred and I headed to the Arizona Inn for lunch. It was nice to sit out there. It was a little warm. But we were in the shade and had a ceiling fan on high. Oh, and daiquiris, margaritas and iced tea helped, too.
I was not excited about going to Tucson in August. But I had a lot of fun and got to see lots of family without it being too stressful.

More visiting and eating out

Yesterday after work Curt, Ed and I headed to Art's Crab Shak. Eventually Alexa met us for dinner: which consisted of fried catfish; two medium buckets of buttery delicious crab goodness and mushrooms and bread; one gin and tonic and five Coronas.
The food was awesome as always. And we had a fun time.
Curt, Ed and I came home and got as much of that butter off as we could.
We then had some more adult beverages and showed Ed the first half of The Hangover, which he thought was hilarious. It was getting late so we didn't finish it.
Ed took off this morning.
This coming weekend I am heading to Tucson. I have a Southwest ticket about to expire and I just couldn't let it expire. So I am heading to Tucson in August ... I vowed two years ago to never return to Arizona in the summer. Ho-hum.

Good cooking, good visits, good times

I left a little early from work on Friday. I came home and Grandpa and Dad were hanging out. I asked them if they wanted to head to McNally's for a drink.
We went to visit John, our favorite bartender, and hang out. Grandpa enjoyed the Harp he tried. We had a good time hanging out, drinking, talking, watching some baseball. Ya know. At one point Grandpa said, I wish Curt was here.
We headed home about 6. Curt came home soon after that. Dad made an amazing dinner. Appetizers were shrimp with polenta in a really yummy sauce. For dinner we had asparagus, skirt steak and rice with sausage.
Saturday morning I headed to the gym for spin class. I came home for a quick shower and French toast made by Dad. After that we headed to the city for the Giants/Dodgers game. Grandpa was excited for the game. We had great seats and the weather turned out to be pretty nice. And the Giants won.
Saturday night we headed to Sushiya to cure Dad's craving. It was a good dinner--but that's not a surprise.
Sunday we had coffee, read the paper and lounged. Dad headed to the city for some meetings. Ed got to our place about 12:30. The four of us headed out to lunch at Ben and Nick's. After lunch another visit to see John at McNally's. We had some beer and hung out.
Soon after we got home from McNally's Dad came home and started making dinner of venison tenderloin, leftover rice and green beans. Delicious yet again.
We had a nice evening hanging out and then to bed.
Dad and Grandpa headed out early this morning. Ed is here until Wednesday. Curt and Ed are at an A's game tonight. I am having a little alone time tonight.
