The Pursuit of Happyness

OK, there is really nothing happy about this movie.
My dad told me it was NOT a pick-me up kinda movie. I only half believed him. Well, he was right.
There were amazing views of San Francisco. Will Smith was truly wonderful in this role, as was his son played by his son. But the guy, Chris Gardner, just could not catch a break. Of course we all know what happens in the end. But man, it was a rough, rough trip for him and his son to get there.
I was knitting while watching the movie. Eventually I put the knitting down and just watched, almost in a trance.
The movie made me feel a little guilty about spending my bonus on a new honkin' TV. (Of course, not THAT guilty, cuz we are still gonna get a new TV.) But if you feel like your life sucks watch that movie. Cuz your life ain't that bad.
There is a line in the movie from the little boy to his dad, "You're a good papa." Talk about tear jerker and heartbreaker. Through all the crap they went through this little guy knew that he had a good dad. That his dad would do anything for him.
Even though it isn't a fun pick-me up kind of movie it is an excellent movie. I highly recommend it.

The WW Hiatus is finally over!

So the last day of my work WW series was Feb. 14. For Weight Watchers to come to work meetings there must be 15 people signed up. We had issues with getting the 15--we were close. Well, we now finally have 15. Today we resumed our meetings. In the 6-week hiatus I gained a tad. But not much considering all that has gone on: Maui, trip to Phx., no meetings to keep me accountable for what I am eating, etc. The most I had lost was on Feb. 7 with 20.6 pounds. I have gained a little and lost a little in the 6 weeks. Today I weighed in with a loss 19.8 pounds. So I am almost back to my big loss. I am hoping to hit 20.6 next week and possibly pass it. I have about 10 pounds to go to hit my weight-loss goal. And then I can finally start buying some new pants. I won't buy new pants until I am at my goal weight.
Oh, and I started working out earlier this month. There is a gym at work. So I have been fast walking on the treadmill. I am slowly working on starting to run. Next month I will start with the run for as long as I can (likely 30 seconds) and then walk, then run, walk, etc. Eventually I want to work up to be able to run for the whole 30 minutes. I tried to get up earlier this morning to work out at home and I had no luck. Dang! (I am hitting Target tonight after work--so no gym time.)

GREAT weekend!

The best part was that Kansas lost. I HATE those Chickenhawks. (Sorry Jay. Nothing personal.) So in the Final Four are 1 and 2 seeds. Talk about boring! (I have to root for a 2 as an underdog, ugh!) I guess I really don't care who wins or loses. I am glad Kansas and North Carolina are out of it.
We had a very lazy weekend.
Sunday we went to REI and got Curt a bike. It is a nice bike. If Curt gets into riding I may get one, too. I will definitely get a cheaper one--no use in spending a hunk of money on a bike for me.
Next weekend we are looking at new TVs! (I am getting my raise and bonus on Friday--so we already want to spend it. More details on the raise later.)

Movie review

"The Departed"

Eh! Curt and I just thought it was OK. But Best Picture????
Martin Scorsese has done better films.
There is a lot of shooting in the heads.

I did think Matt Damon did an excellent job. And actually Leo Dicaprio was pretty good, too.

I had no expectations of the movie. But I was still disappointed. There weren't any really twists in the plot. It was just OK.

Anyone else see it?

Happy birthday Curt!

I meant to post this earlier, but I came into work late today (slept in--haven't been feeling well) and work just kinda took over once I got here.

Anyway, Curt turns the big 3-8 today.

We are going out for sushi tonight. And I will give him all his gifts tonight, including the ones from his parents.

We have decided for our big birthdays in 2009 (he will be 40, I will be 35) we are each going to pick a place we want to go for a week around our birthdays. I have already picked Hawaii. Curt will probably go with somewhere in Europe.

Oh, and I didn't get jury duty. I never even had to show up--which was good since I left work early yesterday since I wasn't feeling so hot.

A day in the life of Joey

Yesterday I lived life as Joey does.
I napped, lounged and ate. And that is about all I did. I have to say it was quite enjoyable.

I was tired from our St. Patty's Day party the night before. It was a small get-together but a lot of fun. And I had nothing planned for Sunday but lounging.

Watching the NCAA tournament is boring. Yes, of course I am bummed about my team. But there really aren't any underdogs to root for.

Now today I wait until 11 to check and see if I am needed for afternoon jury duty. I checked online last night and wasn't needed for the morning session. Now I am waiting to see if I am needed for the afternoon.

March Madness

This is an exciting time of year. Even when your team loses in the first or second (trying to be optimistic) round. Tho. I am thinking the Cats will make it to at least the Sweet 16.
We have a bracket at work. I was gonna fill it out and got lazy and didn't. Plus it is just for fun and not money--so I am not as motivated.
There are always the underdogs to root for. And I ALWAYS root against Kansas. Damn chickenhawks!
Go UA Wildcats!

Wacky weekend

Well, it wasn't all wacky.
Saturday night we had friends Mia and Todd over for dinner. Well, we took them out to dinner. They had us over to their place about 2 months ago for a wonderful home-cooked meal. So we returned with a dinner out at a great place in Rockridge--Marica.
We first hit McNally's for a drink, then dinner at Marica's, then a nightcap at George & Walt's.
Mia and Todd will soon begin redoing their kitchen. So they will be out of commission for a while. I told them we will have them over for dinner--and I will make the only thing I really can: enchiladas, rice and beans (and of course chips and salsa). For the kids: mac and cheese (another one of my specialties) or maybe SpaghettiOs. (Man, the choices they will have.)
Sunday I woke up all wacked out. Curt got up around 6 a.m. (which because of Spring Forward was really 7). I got up, went to the bathroom and passed out again in the bed. Eventually I woke up about 9:15 (but it was 8:15 to my body--which was still really sleeping in for me). I was totally out of it and tired. And Curt was crashed out on the couch.
Eventually I got going and went to run some errands for our St. Patty's Day party we are having this Saturday. I bought some stuff at a party supply store. And believe it or not, but Walgreen's had the green light bulb I wanted for our front porch. Later Curt and I went to BevMo to buy beverages for the party.
Then back to bumming around the rest of our Sunday. And now it is Monday and I am exhausted.
Why do we need to Spring Forward and Fall Back? Let's just stay at Spring Forward and be done with it already!

A true tragedy

Cody Busch (son of Keith and Kathy Busch and brother to Nellie and Zack) was just 22 when he died.
I found out today that this young man died. He had been missing for a week. His body was found in a lake.
His family used to live in my old neighborhood (near 4th Ave. and University in Tucson). We went to the same church and us kids went to the same school. Keith worked (and still does) at the Tucson Citizen.
I didn't know Cody as a young man. I do remember him as a little blond crazy cute kid.
I am devastated by the news. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Click here to read the story and view pictures of Cody and his family.
As I was looking for the story to link up on the Citizen site I found a story saying he didn't drown. So far there is no evidence of foul play. But now I wonder. Click here for that story.

A few pics

Aren't Ann and Oliver so cute?

Curt put some of the pics from my trip out to Phoenix on Flickr. Click here to see the Flickr pics. I took a ton more and will post those on Shutterfly. But have a peek at a few for now.

I'm Back!

I came back from Phoenix last night.
I am exhausted. But I had a great time with all my friends and the adorable Oliver. I took a ton of pictures, which I will share soon. He is so cute! I think he looks just like Leah.
And now back to work. And no trips until July--Vegas wedding baby!

Off to Phoenix

So the little jetsetter that I am ... I am off to Phoenix for a long weekend.
I finally get to meet little Mr. Oliver!
I can't wait to see him.
And it will be good to see all of my friends, too. I saw most of them when I was in town for the baby shower at the beginning of December.
There will be dinners, a brunch, hopefully some knitting, holding and hugging Oliver, not letting anyone else hold Oliver, etc.
Should be a good weekend. I come back home Monday night and back to work Tuesday.
