HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY? (written by kids)

Thanks to Erica for this hilarious forward!

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY? (written by kids)
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10
No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10
WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10
HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8
WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)
On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that Usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?
I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-- Craig, age 9
WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7
The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
- - Curt, age 7
The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-- Howard, age 8
IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)
HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8
And the #1 Favorite is........
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
-- Ricky, age 10

Sad news

A former co-worker of mine passed away over the weekend.
Barry was only 63--but wasn't very healthy.
He definitely kept work interesting the 3 1/2 years I was at The Republic.

Onyx's Knitting Club

Yesterday was one of our Knitting Club member's last meeting. Breanne is our HR intern, and she will be going back to school. She has been teaching crochet and is a really fun member of the group. So we had a little potluck for her. It was a hit! And of course, we had pictures taken. Not all members are in these pics--but they are a pretty good representation of our group.
Breanne just finished an awesome crocheted yoga mat bag. Very cool. Some of us were already putting orders in with her.

We're Moving! ... in November

So Curt and I have been casually looking for a new place to live--a bigger and preferably more quiet place to live.
We saw an ad on Craigslist for a place and viewed it Sunday. The woman really liked us. And as Curt put it, we didn't even turn the charm on. We must be charming on our own. We filled out an application. She called us Monday to say we got it. We met her Monday night to sign the lease and give her a chunk of money.
We will be leaving Berkeley--which makes me a little sad. We are going to Oakland in an area called Rockridge--it is a very hip and nice area. There is great shopping and restaurants near by. The BART station is close. (Erica: We met Katie and Mary Flo in Rockridge for breakfast that one morning. Our new place is pretty close to Crepevine--where we ate.)
We take possession Nov. 1. So we have plenty of time to pack, figure out if we are hiring movers or our friends with beer and pizza and save a little moola.
FYI: Since we will have more room it is even a better free place to stay if you come visit us.

$2.97!!!!

I paid just $2.97 a gallon for gas on Saturday. We haven't paid less than 3 bucks a gallon for months and months. Luckily we live about 2 miles from where I work. So I don't have to fill up too often.

On my way to work this morning, I noticed that the guy in the van behind me was playing a harmonica. Everytime we were at a stoplight I would look in my rearview mirror and he was cranking it out. Interesting.

Suri unveiled

Well, here she is. At first I thought she was rather cute, but seemed older than a 4 1/2-month-old. And then I got a closer look at her hair. And it looks weird. So maybe she is an alien or sporting a baby toupee. This is the first time I have seen Katie smiling since she had the baby.

Did you hear about Cruise apologizing to Brooke Shields?

The numbskull has ruined his career. HA HA HA! Did you hear that his company dropped him? Good. This is called karma, Tommy.

Curt tells me that I blog too much about Tom Cruise. It has been a long time since I wasted my typing skills on him. Unless he does something really dumb anytime soon I will probably be silent on this subject.

Baby Starbean

Check out pics of Starbean--Robert and Leah's term of endearment for Baby Beckidad. Isn't the name so sweet?
Sounds like they are going to wait to find out if Starbean is a boy or a girl.

Bay Area weekend

Our German friends Markus and Gisela were here over the weekend.
Friday night we took them to an Oakland Athletics game. It was their first baseball game. They were very excited. (We really wanted to take them to a a Giants game--but they were out of town.) We had really good seats! We kept walking and walking. Out loud I said, seriously??? ("Grey's Anatomy" anyone?) We were three rows behind the dug out. Talk about close. I have never sat that close at a baseball game before. It was a very exciting game. And the A's won. Afterward there was a a fireworks show. How much more All-American can you get?
Saturday we met them in the city at the cable cars. We took the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf. We had tickets for a 1-hour Bay cruise. At first our boat was having trouble. So we had to switch to another one. Then we were off. It was a great tour. I did take a few pics. I think Markus took a few hundred. He probably took 30 just of the seagulls flying next to the boat. After our "cruise" we had a little seafood appetizer. Then we were off to North Beach for an Italian lunch. The food we had was delicious. But then again, we have never had a bad meal in North Beach.
After lunch we walked through North Beach and Chinatown looking for fun stuff to buy. Gisela told us the German word for souveniers or gifts is "poison."
After our cheap purchases we headed to Old Navy. Gisela wanted to get some clothes. She told us she spent 90 Euros on Converse. Can you believe that??? So she wanted to find some cheap buys in America. The Old Navy we went to was HUGE! I had never been to one so big before. The shopping ended our day. Curt and I headed home. Markus and Gisela back to their hotel. Sunday they drove down to LA.
The rest of our weekend was pretty lazy. I got a few things done--but I never get everything done that I want to. Such is life.

The month of August

Here is my calendar at work. The smileys are when I work out and the stars are when I walk. As you can see there aren't very many stars. The Walking Club has been in a funk. The smileys are when I work out with Maya--whether it is cardio or yoga. 23 times in August I worked out or walked. Not too shabby, eh?
