Sad news

A former co-worker of mine passed away over the weekend.
Barry was only 63--but wasn't very healthy.
He definitely kept work interesting the 3 1/2 years I was at The Republic.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't think of Barry without thinking of his icky gloves and the fruit/nut bread. Had he been ill? Well, more ill than usual?

I just read the obituary. It was interesting to read what other people had to say.

He had been on disability for a couple of months or so. His health was really bad. At that point it didn't matter how well he took care of himself--the damage had been done.
I think between his poor health and his depression (being at home feeling unneeded) is what did it. It makes me very sad that he was alone when he died and that he had probably been lonely.

thank you for all the updates about barry... it really was sad that he died so young. he had a streak in him of being very sweet, if not a little needy.

that said, we mustn't forget that some of his last words to the staff were something to the tune of "see you later, a**holes," and i'm glad i wasn't the first to mention the cheeto fingers.

i was amazed to find out about all the things he had done at the paper -- it seemed like he really made his mark, far before we even thought about getting into the business.
